Preventative Medicine

Our preventative medicine program includes wellness examination, parasite prevention, and vaccination. We also have plans for dental prophylaxis, nutritional and weight management counseling, services and diagnostics for senior pets, and a special focus on preventative care of the feline population. The main focus of all the wellness programs will be on client education and awareness.

Regular Physical Exams

Our emphasis on preventative medicine is based the understanding that the best way to treat disease is to prevent it or to identify it early. We recommend a physical examination every year for juveniles and adults. This is the equivalent of a human having an exam every seven years.

Pets are unable to communicate how they feel with words, so they are more likely to progress further on the path to illness prior to detection than humans. In addition many pets, especially cats, hide their illness from us, so only an experienced veterinarian performing a thorough examination can determine your pet's state of wellness.

Geriatrics

As your pet grows older, we may recommend twice yearly wellness visits and periodic diagnostic screening tests to help identify or monitor potential health problems such as diabetes, kidney disease and thyroid disease.

Our Vaccine Program Has Tails Wagging!

We are pleased to offer an individualized vaccine program that starts with a consultation regarding your pet's lifestyle and risk assessment.

For cats we are proud to offer the safest vaccines available including Purvax® Feline Rabies and Purvax® Feline Leukemia Vaccines and Continuum® HCP the first FDA labeled 3 Year distemper vaccine.

For dogs we are proud to offer Continuum® 3 Year DAP(distemper/parvo) in addition to 3 year rabies vaccine when indicated. Other vaccines that may be recommended, depending upon the lifestyle of your dog, include Lyme vaccine, kennel cough, and Leptospirosis vaccine.

Dentistry

Our dental program starts with an oral evaluation with every physical exam including information on home dental care. We also provide full treatment regimens include prophylactic cleaning and polishing, and surgical extractions.

Nutritional Counseling for all Life Stages

The importance of a good diet cannot be overstated. It can make a difference for the proper formation of joints in growing youngsters, or the brain function of an elderly pet. The quality and quantity of a pets life is directly related to the health of their internal organs. Diet plays a key role in how long those organs remain healthy.

In addition, maintaining an ideal body weight is vital to living long and healthier lives. According to estimates, approximately 25-50% of dogs and cats seen by veterinarians are overweight or obese. As in people, obesity can have negative effects on your pet's health.

In a groundbreaking 14 year study by Purina® researchers showed that dogs fed to an ideal condition throughout their lives had a lifespan of 1.8 years longer - and were considerably healthier - than their obese littermates.

Behavior

Whether you are dealing with a brand new puppy or an older animal that just needs a little help, our veterinary technician and doctor have a vast array of knowledge in the field and can lend a helping hand to any behavior issues.

Microchipping

What is microchipping? Microchipping is permanent pet identification. It is safe, simple, and a permanent form of pet identification designed to quickly identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners.

Microchip placement is recommended during the first puppy or kitten visits, at the time of spay or neuter, or as needed when older. The microchip is a tiny device, the size of a grain of rice, inserted under thepet's skin, with an identification number that is registered by the pet owner. The identification number can easily be read by a scanner that most veterinary hospitals and shelters have on hand. If your pet is lost or stolen, then this identification number can be tracked back to the original owner. We use Home Again microchips.

Medical Care

Our medical care program consists of providing diagnostic testing, appropriate pharmaceutical therapy, other procedures and hospitalization as needed for progressive care of illness and injury.

Allergies

An individualized consultation may result in a combination of treatments including OTC medications, nutriceuticals, topical/shampoos, dietary changes and prescription medications. Serum allergy testing and immunotherapy may also be recommended in order to identify and treat your pet's sensitivities.

Internal Medicine

Our range of care includes diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, thyroid disease, heart, liver, gastrointestinal, kidney diseases, genetic, and infectious diseases.

Laboratory

Our fully equipped in-house laboratory allows for on-site evaluations in serology, parasitology, urology, and blood chemistry. Most of these tests can be run in the matter of minutes. We find this critical to our pre-anesthetic screening, and for ill or injured patients. We also use outside laboratories for some screening tests, and biopsies.

Pharmacology

Our on-site pharmacy includes a complete inventory of the latest in pharmaceuticals and Purina prescription diets.

Radiology

An on-site X-ray facility with an automatic processor means both routine and quickly processed and performed with minimal radiation exposure. Consultations with board certified radiologists are available through telemedicine.

Surgical Care

Our surgical care program not only serves our clients for routine surgical procedures such as spay and neuter, but also serve the needs of animals that require a variety of both soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures.

Anesthesia/Pain Management

In-house pre-anesthetic bloodwork and ECG catered specifically to your pet is recommended on all anesthetic/surgical patients in order to minimize risks associated with anesthesia. Along with the safest injectable agents and sevoflurane gas anesthesia, our pets are continually monitored by our surgical technicial and with a heart rate, blood pressure machine, and an oxygen-blood gas monitor. Pain management is also a critical component of every surgical procedure and post operative aftercare plan.

Surgery, soft-tissue

In addition to spay/neuter/declaw, a wide range of surgeries are preformed including but not limited to gastrointestinal, urinary, tumor removal/biopsy.

Surgery, orthopedic

Lateral suture method cruciate ligament (knee) surgery is performed when indicated. Most other orthopedic surgeries will be referred to area board certified specialists.

Referral Medicine

We will initiate transfer of a patient to specialist services when the needs of the patient can no longer be met within the confines of a general practice. ICU care, orthopedics, ultrasound, and cancer treatment are examples of cases that might be referred.
